Town councillors in Sandwich have hit out at plans to close an emergency careline for vulnerable people.

The district council plans to stop the White Cliffs Careline next year, with people being transferred to other services.

Mayor Cllr Joe Trussler described it as a wonderful service that works well for the community.

She said: “We are trying to encourage people to stay in their own homes and it does not make sense to remove this lifeline.

“We need to fight this.”

Councillors agreed to write to the district council asking them to reconsider their decision and for an explanation of the figures given as the amount being lost by the service.
