Latest assault on Breezy Corner in Sandwich takes things to a new level

Damage caused by a lorry to a shop front in Sandwich has taken things to a new level according to the Town Team.

Sally Roberts, the owner of Scrumalicious Cake Company in Strand Street near Breezy Corner, discovered her window had been smashed by a transporter last Wednesday.

She said: “Where the wooden frame has been hit so hard it has caused the window to shatter. I’ve got to have the window replaced.”

The vehicle also damaged another window ledge on the same property and a wall.

She said: “When I first saw it, I just thought, here we go again.

“My property is the most hit property in Sandwich. It’s always being hit. It’s just continual. I’m very fed up with it. It’s just becoming too much.”

Sandwich Town Team member, Howard Norton said: “This latest assault on Breezy Corner takes things to a new level.

“Why should people risk life, limb and livelihood because of vehicles that are ridiculously unsuited to Sandwich’s narrow streets?

“After concerted pressure from the Town Team, KCC have agreed to introduce an HGV weight limit (with exemption for deliveries) and to install protective bollards at this spot.

“There are a few individuals who will no doubt object because they put their own agenda before public safety. However, we haven’t got this far only to give in at the point where real progress is being made.”
