Sandwich held flag raising ceremony to mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

A flag-raising ceremony was held in Sandwich yesterday to mark Armed Forces Day.

The chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Sue Nicholas, and the Deputy Mayor of Sandwich, Cllr Pip Russell, hosted the ceremony outside the Guildhall.

Town Sergeant Kevin Cook raised the flag with members of the armed forces in attendance.

Armed Forces Day aims to raise awareness of the contribution made to the country by those that serve in the forces and gives the public a chance to show their support.

This was one of many events held across the country and follows the launch of the Armed Forces Covenant last year.

The covenant encourages people across the district to support the service community and promote understanding of the issues affecting them.
