Sandwich Food Fayre, Cattle Market and Market Street, was a great success this year

Sandwich Food Fayre was a great success with lots of visitors this weekend, despite the lack of sunshine.

It saw over 40 stalls showcasing food and drink from around the world and live music performances on both Saturday and Sunday at the Guildhall Forecourt and Market Street.

Visitors and residents enjoyed tasty treats from the Java bakery, based at the Discovery Park, the Chequers Kitchen, Margate Smokehouse, Go Dutch, Creative Cooking, A Taste of Thailand and Taste the Colours of India as well as much more.

Meats, cheeses and cider were just some of the goodies available from local farms such as Delight Farm in Kingston and drinks from Hebridean Spirits and Liqueurs and Kentish Pip Cider.

Steve Laslett, event spokesman said: “The Food Fayre was a huge success with an impressive line-up of local and global foods.

“It was great to see a good crowd both days, in spite of the threatening weather, coming to browse the stalls and enjoy the Sandwich Bites competition."

The overall winner for the Sandwich Bites competition was Sue Gordon, 61, of Sandwich Bay, for her freshly-picked, wild asparagus sandwich which she made with her two grandsons, Cosmo Fuller, 4, and Bertie Fuller, 2.

She was awarded £120 worth of vouchers to spend in cafes and restaurants around the town.

The winner of the professional category for the best sandwich in Sandwich was Jeanette Todd and Bob Taylor from The Market Inn, Cattle Market.
