Otford: Firefighters called to barn fire in Telston Lane

Firefighters have been dealing with fire in a derelict farm building in Otford overnight.

Around 20 crew members were called to the barn in Telston Lane just before 8pm.

They used four pumps, a water carrier and height vehicle to bring the fire in the single storey structure under control.

Initially, workers were fighting the fire inside the barn, but they were later withdrawn in case the roof collapsed.

UK Power Networks were forced to cut off power to several nearby properties but there were no reported injuries.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman, said: "Access to the building was difficult due to it being in an overgrown area of farmland and crews worked incredibly hard, in challenging conditions on a very warm and humid evening to fight the blaze."

Fire crews remained at the scene for hours after it was put out, to damp down the area.

The cause of the blaze is not known at this stage but is being investigated.
