They escorted the boys, aged 17 and 15 and both from Longfield, back to a nearby clubhouse while the police were called.

The pair were both arrested on suspicion of burglary, while the 17-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis.

Inspector Nick Finnis said: "We rely on members of the public to alert us when a suspected crime is being committed or people are acting suspiciously.

"In this case, these public-spirited footballers went a step further and have assisted us in arresting these individuals. I am grateful for their help."

Both teenagers were subsequently released pending further investigation.
