Motorists heading towards Kent on the M25 faced delays after a three vehicle smash between junction 5 for the M26/A21 turn-off for Sevenoaks and Junction 6, for the A22 at Godstone.
Three lanes were blocked and traffic was queuing after the three car crash which happened not long before 5pm.
Lanes two, three and four of four were blocked and traffic was said to be passing slowly on the hard shoulder and in lane one.
It is not thought anyone was seriously injured in the smash, and Highways England said motorist should expect long delays.

"Motorists are advised to expect some delays."
It is understood the damaged vehicles have now been moved to the side of the carriagway and traffic has begun to move again.
