Henry Simmonds in Borough Green set to be transformed into Sainsbury's local store

A new Sainsbury's is due to be built on the site of the Henry Simmonds pub in Borough Green.

The supermarket chain is set to take over the site on Wrotham Road and install a new local convenience store - creating 20-25 new full and part-time jobs for local people.

The proposals, set to go before the council, would see the existing car park formalised with a new one-way system and pedestrian walk ways to ensure safe vehicle and pedestrian access to the store.

Bosses say the store would be located in the ground floor of the existing building and a small extension to the rear of the store would facilitate the provision of the new installation.

Sainsbury's has revealed it would provide space on the site for a dedicated delivery area to ensure service vehicles don't impact too much on surrounding roads.

Mark Rush, Sainsbury's regional acquisitions manager, said: "We are delighted to confirm our plans for a new local store in Borough Green.

"Our local stores are much small than traditional supermarkets and designed for people 'topping up' their weekly shop.

“The site, with its close proximity to the High Street, is well situated to help to increase footfall for the benefit of existing traders as well as delivering investment and up to 25 new jobs to the area.”
