Revised plan to turn land near Seal High Street into a care home submitted to Sevenoaks District Council

A large scale care home could be built on a plot of green belt land in Sevenoaks.

A planning application to transform a former sandpit near Seal High Street into the 75-bed facility has been submitted to Sevenoaks District Council.

It is a revised re-submission as original plans put to planning officers in July were withdrawn in September after a number of issues were raised.

The site, covering just under a hectare, to the south of Zambra Way, previously held a number of commercial buildings but is now vacant according to the planning documents.

A number of amendments have been made as a result of feedback and dialogue with the planning authority.

Changes include a reduction in the height of the building by up to 3.8m and alterations to the access drive to allow increased passing width close to the junction with the A25.

If the application is approved, a two and a half-storey, L-shaped building will be constructed.

Accommodation that was originally meant to be built on the third floor will now be built into the roof space.

The state-of-the-art facility will include a cafe, internet area, beauty centre, cinema and activity room and a physiotherapy centre.

However, the site is on green belt land and under a section of the National Planning Policy Framework, developers will have to prove that the potential harm of construction is outweighed by special circumstances.

The applicants said there is a need for the care home facility in the local catchment area.

A decision on the proposal is due on May 25.
