Costa Coffee Westerham will reopen in March after Christmas Eve accident

Following a tragic incident on Christmas Eve, a coffee shop has announced it is due to reopen next month.

Valerie Deakin, 74, was sitting in the window of Costa Coffee, in Westerham, with her daughter and best friend when a car drove through the window, resulting in her death.

Costa has no set date to resume business in its store, on Market Square, but expects it will be early next month.

Work has been taking place and investigations are being carried out to work out the circumstances behind the accident, where a black Audi, driven by an 88-year-old man, ploughed into the shop at around 10.30am.

Kerry Parkin, head of communications for Costa, said: "Following the tragic accident which occurred at our Westerham store on December 24, our thoughts remain with the victims and their families who were affected by this very sad and shocking event.

"We continue to work with the local council and the family of the victim to offer any support and ensure we honour their memory in an appropriate manner.

"We can confirm the works are underway to repair the damage to the premises and we anticipate we will reopen the store in early March."
