Outline planning permission for 62 homes in Scocles Road, Minster, submitted to Swale council

An application for outline planning permission for 62 homes off Scocles Road, Minster, has been submitted to Swale council.

It comprises 18 two-bedroom houses, 38 three-bedroom houses, 12 four-bedroom houses and four five-bedroom houses. The application is to be discussed by Minster parish councillors next Thursday (Jan 5).

The estate would be built on 2.78 hectacres of land between Elm Lane and the back of homes in Drakes Avenue. There would be two entrances onto Scocles Road.

Developers plan to demolish an existing stable block but retain a pond and introduce a ‘green space.’ The homes would be built across the line of the former Sheppey Light Railway which had a platform nearby.

The site has already been earmarked for up to 50 homes. Of the 62 plots, 13 would be sold to individuals to build their own homes.

Duncan Stanley has already submitted a formal objection. He wrote: “The development would place a significant additional burden on Scocles Road with the anticipated number of vehicles.

“The road is already very busy at certain times of the day. The two proposed access entrances will increase the likelihood of an accident.”

He said the new houses would overlook his home and affect the value of neighbouring properties. He warned that a storm drain in Elm Lane could be affected and that the land was prone to flooding.
