Homes, holiday parks and businesses have been targeted in a spate of burglaries across the Island.

A total of seven separate incidents were reported to police in the space of four days last week.

Various items have been stolen from people’s homes and garages, mainly from Minster.

In one incident two African grey parrots, with a combined value of up to £2,000, were taken from Stonnes Family Centre, Halfway Road, Halfway, overnight Thursday and Friday.

The pair were the beloved pets the owner Dawn Oriss.

She believes thieves got into the grounds through a fence it shares with a neighbouring caravan park, before they broke in through the front door.

Feathers were scattered on the floor and the lock on a cage was intact, leading Mrs Oriss to fear the birds may have been harmed by being pulled through the bars.

The 49-year-old said: “I would hate to think they have been hurt. I was very angry.

“They took our till as well but that only had change in it. We found that smashed up outside.”

The male parrot is named Bob and the female is named Oscar – she was originally thought to be male by a previous owner, until she laid an egg.

The birds, which can be sold for anything from £800 to £1,000 each, are grey with red tails.
