Minster Parish Council appeal to prevent congestion during Lower Road closure

One of the Island’s busiest routes will be closed next week.

From Monday to Friday, the Lower Road will be shut from Cowstead Corner to the junction of Barton Hill Drive.

The closure is for carriageway repair work, which is scheduled to start from 9.30am.
A diversion route will be in place through Queenborough Road, Minster Road and Barton Hill Drive.

A KCC spokesman said local residents and larger vehicles such as lorries and buses would still be able to use Lower Road.

He said: “Apologies are given for the short notice leading to these works, but the damage is too serious to be left any longer.”

KCC said marshalls will be in place at both ends of Lower Road to monitor access.

Minster Parish Council has asked for drivers to avoid parking on the Minster-bound section of Queenborough Road passed the traffic lights to help ease “inevitable congestion”.

“It also goes without saying, if you have a driveway please use it and encourage your visitors to do the same,” a spokesman said.
