Work is progressing well on the restoration of a unique Sheppey house.

Scaffolding is up around number 362 Minster Road, Minster and owner Mark Soper says things are moving forward now the cracks in the building have been stabilised.

He and his father William paid £192,000 at auction last year for the art deco property after they fell in love with it.

In January we reported how the cost of doing it up was likely to be in excess of £100,000 as it was more dilapidated than they first thought and there were concerns about how the restoration would proceed.

But now work has started, it’s looking a bit more positive. The next job is for a new flat roof to be installed as well as for new windows to be fitted.

A coat of render will also be put completely over the property – to make it water tight over winter.

Inside the 1920s house, a concert piano was found buried under piles of old newspapers, books and classical music sheets.

It was donated to the Blue Town Heritage Centre.
