Eastchurch Primary’s All Saints and St Clements sites went to the twin turbines at Standford Hill, Church Road, Eastchurch

Environmentally-friendly pupils were empowered by a trip to an onshore wind farm.

Children from both Eastchurch Primary’s All Saints and St Clements sites went to the twin turbines, operated by Partnerships for Renewables, last Wednesday.

They are on land by HMP Standford Hill in Church Road, Eastchurch.

The youngsters had the chance to look inside the generator room to find out how they work and an engineer was on hand to answer all their questions.

Year two pupils are doing an environmental study this term where they are looking at ways of saving electricity and renewable energy sources.

Sarah Hunt, head of school at the All Saints site, said: “I think they were quite amazed by the size of the wind turbines and also how much electricity they actually produce and how many homes can be powered.

“We worked it out as about a third of homes on the Island, roughly.”
