Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey, Marine Parade, Sheerness, opens its doors to senior citizens

A school has launched an initiative to raise awareness about dementia in the community.

Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey invited members of the public and people living with the condition to its site in Marine Parade, Sheerness, on Friday for a hot drink and a chat.

A Christingle service was also held by the Rev Tim Hall and St Edward’s Catholic primary pupils performed a Nativity play for guests.

Hair and beauty students put on a pampering session, while others provided musical entertainment.

The academy aims to hold these dementia cafes six times a year with a different theme on each occasion and hopes another school will take up the scheme as well.

Spokesman Marion Jones said: “It was just a really lovely afternoon and all the people who came said how lovely it was to see the children singing carols and how it put them in the Christmas spirit.”
