Sheerness grandmother Linda Munday campaigned for disable swing for grandson Sean, only for it to be stolen from New Road Playing Fields

A swing installed for disabled children has been stolen.

The specialised plastic seat was added to New Road Playing Fields, Sheerness, following a long campaign by Linda Munday whose grandson, Sean, aged six, is severely disabled.

The 46-year-old Hope Street resident enlisted the support of MP Gordon Henderson to have the seat installed and she finally got her wish when it was put in place in August.

She said: “Sean loved that swing.

“We’d take him to use it at least once a week and it opened up a whole new world to him.

“It meant he could be out and interacting with other children, which he loves.

“The people who did this are scum bags - and that’s being polite.

“The seats are expensive so they obviously knew what they were taking.

“We’d have loved one for our own garden, but we can’t afford it, so the next best thing was to have one installed at the park.

“We fought so long and hard to get it, now it’s gone.

“The whole family are upset.”

As well as installing the seat, Swale council repaired the surface beneath to make it safe to use.

MP Gordon Henderson said he would be contacting the local authority regarding the theft.

Reacting to the incident via Facebook, he said: “How can anyone hit vulnerable kids this way?

“The depths to which some people sink astounds me - what is the world coming to?”

Mrs Munday is hoping the swing will eventually be replaced, but in the meantime she’s made a heartfelt plea for its return.

She said: “If anybody knows if the seat has been sold onto someone, please tell that person, if they have any dignity, to get in touch with the council and return it.”

Police confirmed the swing was reported missing on Wednesday, October 15.
