VIDEO: Police shut Marine Parade, Sheerness, after man hits wall near the Oasis Isle of Sheppey Academy's west campus

A man had to be freed from his car after crashing into a sea wall.

Witnesses reported that the black Vauxhall Vectra appeared to have driven "straight into the wall" in Marine Parade, Sheerness, under the Neptune sculpture.

One car was involved in the accident which happened at around 2.15pm.

Police shut a section of Marine Parade and Richmond Street, and traffic was diverted through Halfway.

The road reopened just before 5pm.

Two fire engines, two police cars and an ambulance car were called to the scene.

A police spokesman confirmed officers were in attendance and two people were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

The male driver had sustained a leg injury and a female passenger was treated for shock.

At least one of the patients was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for further treatment.
