Sheppey Crossing closed in one direction following crash

The Sheppey Crossing was closed in one direction following a crash this morning.

Police had to shut the Sheppey-bound carriageway because of the single-car collision.

Traffic was diverted onto the old Kingsferry Bridge to come onto the Island, whilst the vehicle was recovered.

A police spokesman said officers were called to the accident shortly before 8.20am.

They were joined by a crew from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, but no-one required hospital treatment.

The bridge reopened at about 9.30am.

There was also queuing traffic on the A249 at the Iwade and Kemsley turn-off due to temporary lights on Swale Way, by Nicholls Transport.

This is because of a collapsed manhole cover.
