Disabled man taken to hospital following crash in Hope Street, Sheerness

A disabled man was taken to hospital following a two-car smash in Hope Street, Sheerness.

The grey Ford Focus and silver Vauxhall Vectra collided at just after midday at the junction of New Road and Broad Street.

As well as police and ambulance crews, firefighters also attended to deal with a reported fuel spillage that was actually coolant.

Doug King, of King Coachcraft on Broad Street, said: “The front of this brand spanking new Focus was flattened - there was a wheelchair user in it.

“The lady in the Vectra was very shaken as all the airbags went off and she couldn’t get out of her driver’s door because of the impact.”

Mr King added it was the fourth accident at the junction this year alone, which he said was due to the New Road pavement being widened causing motorists to park their cars further into the road and creating a “tunnel effect” driving along it.

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman confirmed paramedics were called to the scene, but neither of the drivers sustained serious injuries.
