Elmley Prison guard Alison Waddington facing jail after smuggling in mobiles and having 'inappropriate' relationship with inmate Jason Quinn

A prison officer could be facing a jail sentence after she had an "inappropriate" relationship with an inmate and smuggled in mobile phones.

Alison Waddington admitted misconduct in public office while working at Elmley Prison between September 1 last year and January 8 by having the relationship with Jason Quinn.

She also admitted conveying an article - a quantity of mobile phones - into the Sheppey prison between September 1 and December 20 last year.

The prosecution at Maidstone Crown Court asked for time to consider 45-year-old's basis of plea. If it is not accepted evidence will be called.

Recorder Jason Dunn-Shaw said "the real mischief" was in the mobile phones offence.

"The point of having an inappropriate relationship is things can happen," he added.

Adrian Rohard, defending, said Waddington, of Leet Close, Eastchurch, was the main carer for her parents who had health difficulties.

Adjourning sentence until October 20 for reports and continuing unconditional bail, the judge told him: "Your client must appreciate the likely disposal is custody."
