Warden man James Morrison praises emergency services after smash on A249 near Sittingbourne

A man has praised the emergency services after being involved in an early-hours crash that left him in hospital.

James Morrison was travelling on the A249 towards Maidstone at around 5.30am on Friday, May 12.

As he approached the exit for Kemsley, the clutch cable in his van broke, forcing him to pull over.

He was sat in the left-hand lane of the dual carriageway with his hazards on, when another driver smashed into the back of his van.

The 65-year-old said: “Thankfully I was sat without the handbrake on, otherwise the outcome could have been much worse.

“When the police arrived I heard her telling them she was travelling between 60mph and 70mph.”

Mr Morrison, of Windsor Gardens, Warden, was treated at Medway Maritime Hospital.

He said: “PC Craig Henderson went above and beyond the call of duty to help me. I needed to ring my wife but I couldn’t find the numbers or anything so he got the details off my phone and called her to let her know I was OK.

“The ambulance crews were really helpful. I didn’t like lying down not knowing where I was going but they were really comforting, and when I got to A&E the staff there were brilliant.

“You hear a lot of negative stuff about these services but you need to give them their due when they deserve it, and I couldn’t fault any of them.”
