Woman rescued from Warden Bay cliff after becoming stuck in mud while retrieving her son

A woman had to be rescued when she became stuck in mud halfway up a cliff while trying to free her son.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident off the coast of Warden Bay at about 3pm today.

The lady, aged in her 40s, had gone out to get her child who had become stuck.

She managed to free the boy but in the process her ankle became trapped in mud.

Sheppey firefighters managed to release the woman, believed to be from Selling, using equipment including a mud lance.

Whitstable lifeboat and the Sheppey Coastguard team were also called to the scene but were stood down as they were no longer needed.

All involved were safe and well.
