Paul Pavitt, vice-chairman of the organising committee, said: “This will be the biggest event Sheppey has ever seen.”

It is being put together by the Island’s 350 masons to celebrate 300 years of freemasonry in the UK. It will be at Sheppey Rugby Club on the Lower Road at Minster and is costing about £6,000 to stage.

The fun kicks off at noon with the arrival of the parachutists and then the Sheppey Pirates will give a demonstration of canon and musket-firing.

There will be bands and music from the Isle of Sheppey St John Ambulance Band.

Mr Pavitt said: “All we need now is the weather on our side.”

Entrance is £2 and includes a free programme.

Coach company Travelmasters has agreed to supply free buses from Sheerness, Queenborough, Halfway, Eastchurch, Warden and Leysdown on the day to take crowds to the club Club.

Mr Pavitt added: “We also have a huge amount of parking available on Taylor’s field next to the club.”

It is the sixth event of its kind the masons have organised. Builder Paul said: “We took a break last year but this summer it is coming back bigger than ever.”

The last event raised £12,000 for charities. This year, the masons are pulling out all the stops to try to smash that figure.

The rugby club is organising a beer tent. Mr Pavitt said: “We aren’t charging for pitches. The charities can keep everything they raise on the day.”

Stalls will include Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue, Kent Air Ambulance, Demelza Hospice Care for Children, Cats Protection, Sheerness County Youth Centre, Abbey Gatehouse Museum, Blue Town Heritage Centre, Harmony Therapy Trust, St Edward’s RC Primary School, Sheppey Sea and Air Cadets and Sheppey 8th and 2nd Scouts and the RNLI.
