Officers injured in Swaleside prison disturbance

An investigation has been launched after a disturbance at a Sheppey prison saw five prison officers injured.

The incident of "indiscipline" broke out at the Category B men's prison on Sheppey yesterday.

Several prisoners are thought to have been moved to other jails in the wake of the incident.

It's believed some of the prison officers were taken to hospital for treatment.

A statement from the Ministry of Justice today said the prison was now operating as usual and an investigation is under way to establish what happened.

Swaleside houses more than 1,000 inmates, around half of whom are serving life sentences.
