Harmony Therapy Trust fundraisers take daredevil leap to raise thousands for the Sheerness Times Guardian's charity of the year

A quartet of brave volunteers raised £4,500 for a Sheerness charity by taking part in a sponsored sky dive.

The money will go to the Harmony Therapy Trust which provides free treatments for seriously ill people and is the Times Guardian’s Charity of the Year.

Gillian Smissen, who is a trustee and therapist with the charity, arranged the jump with her three friends Vicky Steele, Moyra Hennebery and Mandy Richmond on at Headcorn on Sunday.

The day before, Four of a Kind put on a programme called Nice and Easy at the Sheppey Little Theatre, Meyrick Road, Sheerness, which raised £350 for the trust. They performed easy-listening melodies, and the Island group was joined by guest folk duo Fiddle and Faff who did acappella singing.

Founder of the charity Dawn Cockburn said: “It was very generous of them. We were bowled over by the amount and we had a lovely evening.

“It was very relaxing music and everyone was so giving and so willing.”

A pig racing night is planned on Saturday, October 11 at Minster Working Men’s Club, Union Road, Minster.

Sponsors are being sought for the races and for the pigs themselves.

There is still a chance to donate towards the sky dive via www.justgiving.com/Gillian-Smissen
