Kent Police helicopter scrambled for missing pensioner in Minster, Sheppey

A police helicopter was scrambled last night to search for a man with Alzheimer's, who went missing.

The 69-year-old from Medway reportedly wandered off from a friend's home in The Broadway, Minster, at around 9.30pm.

Concerned relatives took to social media to ask those in the area to keep an eye out for him.

Close family friend Laura Gilson said: "He and his wife were at my dad's house for dinner.

"They live in Rainham, so he didn't know the area."

A number of Facebook users posted an earlier sightings of him, with one saying he had been knocking on doors in Waverley Avenue in a confused state.

He was eventually located by police at 3.45am this morning.

Ms Gilson added: "Some of the officers were due to go off shift but stayed on later until he was found.

"They kept his wife informed throughout and one officer stayed with us throughout the night until he was found. They did a great job in finding him safe and well in such cold weather."
