Land Rover Freelander gets stuck in the sea at Sheerness

Efforts to pull a trapped 4x4 out of the sea have failed this evening, leaving the vehicle almost submerged by the rising tide.

The 4x4 got stuck on the beach after its owner became trapped on a boat off Sheerness.

The Land Rover Freelander was parked on Shingle Bank Beach in Minster while its owner went out on a boat.

But when the boat's engine failed, the owner was unable to return to the shore, and could only watch as the tide came in, swamping the 4x4.

Police and coastguards are at the scene and are attempted to pull the vehicle out before it was too late, but their efforts appear to have been in vain.
