Lorry, car and van in crash on A249 at Sheppey bridge

The Sheppey Crossing is now open in both directions following a three-vehicle crash earlier.

The A249 south-bound has been cleared after the lorry, car and van crashed on the crossing this afternoon.

Police were called at 2.37pm after it's believed a car rolled back into the van as the driver became ill at the wheel.

Staff from a car and an ambulance treated the man, aged in his 30s, at the scene before he was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham for further checks.

It comes just weeks after Deborah Roberts, 42, and her eight-year-old son Marshall died on Tuesday, July 1, following a crash on the bridge leading to calls for the crossing to be made safer.
