A pensioner is being treated in hosptial after being hit by a car in Queenborough Road, Sheppey

A pensioner suffered a serious head injury after being by a car in Queenborough yesterday.

The 80-year-old man was airlifted to hospital following the accident which happened in Queenborough Road, opposite the service station, at about 3.55pm.

He was flown to St George's Hospital in Tooting where his injuries were described as serious, but non-life threatening.

Three ambulances were sent to the scene of yesterday's accident, with the air ambulance landing in the nearby Aviator pub car park.

The A249 in Brielle Way was blocked in both directions, but reopened at about 5.15pm.

Police also attended and traffic backed up to the Sheppey Crossing.
