Victor Awadzi, from Minster, jailed for attacking baby

A man who attacked a baby, inflicting several fractures, has been jailed.

The little girl, who was less than six months old, suffered multiple injuries in the assault at the hands of Victor Awadzi.

He was arrested on May 14, 2014 after hospital staff became suspicious about the infant's injuries.

She was found to have fractures but no underlying medical conditions that could account for them.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Awadzi, from Minster, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and a further charge of child cruelty.

He has now been jailed for 10 years, and must spend an additional five years on extended licence.

Investigating officer Detective Constable John Milham said: "The child's injuries were serious and it is fortunate she survived as the consequences for someone so young could have been tragic.

"Although he admitted guilt at court, Awadzi has never given a credible explanation has to how the injuries were caused.

"My thoughts go out to the victim and her family and I wish them well for the future.

"I thank them for their ongoing support during the investigation and court case."
