Man taken to hospital after armed police attend firearms incident in Belmont Road, Halfway

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after armed police descended on a residential street.

Firearms officers, ambulance crews and forensics teams were called to Belmont Road in Halfway following reports a man had a gun and had been injured.

The man, aged in his 20s, was rushed to a London hospital with serious injuries.

Police would not confirm if he had been shot, but said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to reports that a man was injured at a property in Belmont Road, Halfway, at 9.26am on Sunday 13 August 2017.

"The man was reported to be in possession of a firearm and armed officers attended the location as a precaution.

"The South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended and the man, who is in his 20s, was taken to a London Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

"He remains at hospital in a serious but stable condition.

"The matter is not being treated as a suspicious incident."

Neighbours said the heavy police presence caused alarm in the area, with officers at the scene telling them there had been a "serious incident".

The air ambulance is also thought to have landed nearby.
