Emergency in New Road, Sheerness

At least four police cars, three ambulances and one fire engine were sent to a medical emergency at a Sheerness school.

A Kent fire and Rescue Service spokesman said crews had been called to St Edward's Catholic Primary School in New Road shortly after 1.30pm.

Police closed off Hope Street, leading to New Road, near builders' merchants Jewson at the junction with Broad Street.

St Edward's head teacher Sara Wakefield said: "I can confirm there was a medical incident at the school today, which emergency services were called to.

"I am unable to comment further at this time but our thoughts are with those involved.

"We can confirm that all children are safe and well."

A police spokesman said they were called at 1.39pm to assist with a medical incident in New Road, Sheerness.

Officers were there alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service.
