Almost 500 homes, shops and a children's nursery were left without power in Minster, Sheppey, this afternoon.
An overhead power cable crashed to the ground in Queen's Road leaving 481 customers without electricity for two hours, says UK Power Networks.
The power went off just before 2pm, and returned at around 4pm.
Police closed off part of Queen's Road while engineers carried out emergency repairs and made the area safe.
Among those affected were children at Daisychains pre-school nursery at St George's CE Primary School in Chequers Road.
Parents were asked to take their children home.
A spokesman for UK Power Networks said earlier: "We're investigating a high voltage overhead electricity line fault which has caused a power cut in the local area."
Travelmasters, which operates many school buses on the Island, said: "All buses coming towards Sheerness will drop passengers at Minster village then access Wards Hill via Back Lane and Union Road."
