Michele Adlam put the money towards the 16-seater vehicle for her fellow Leysdown Over 60s Club members.

The secondhand motor has been given a fresh lick of paint and the group’s name has been put on the side while Leysdown village hall committee has paid for its insurance.

It has already been on trips to Chatham Dockyard and The Leas in Minster and there are plans for shopping days and evening outings to places like Blue Town Heritage Centre.

Founder of the club Evelyn Howell said: “[Michele] came into a little bit of money and gave us some of it to buy the minibus which was very kind of her and we are very grateful.

“At this end of the Island, we are stuck for transport.”

Leysdown Over 60s Club, which has more than 80 members, meets at the village hall every Thursday at 1.30pm for bingo, quizzes and entertainment.
