A spokesman said an elderly woman had got out before crews arrived. The pair were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Officers attended Marine Parade after it was reported a blue Suzuki Ignis was in collision with a red Mini Cooper.

"The Suzuki is believed to have flipped onto its roof and the driver and passenger, an elderly couple from Minster, were taken to a hospital in Medway.

"The man is reported to have suffered chest pains and the woman had back pains and a sore collar bone and ribs.

"The road was fully reopened by 9.35pm."

A spokesman said no arrests have been made.

The road was closed while emergency services - including police and two South East Coast Ambulance Service ambulances - were at the scene.

Two fire engines left Marine Parade after around 30 minutes.
