Sheerness paddling pool at Sheppey Leisure Complex reopens after non-slip coating added for children's safety

A paddling pool, which had to be shut after children started slipping over, is set to reopen tomorrow.

The outdoor attraction at the Sheppey Leisure Complex in Beach Street, Sheerness, was closed last Wednesday following reports that a £22,500 revamp had left the inside slippery and causing injuries.

Swale council promptly drained the facility before getting contractors to add a non-slip coating to the pool.

A council spokesman said: “Following the completion of remedial works to the lining of Beachfields paddling pool earlier in the week, routine water quality tests had to be carried out before the pool could be opened.

“Confirmation of the water test results has been received today, Friday, June 9. Now that the water quality has been cleared, the pool will be reopened to the public.”

The closure of the pool affected youngsters enjoying their half term breaks from school.

Cllr David Simmons, cabinet member for environment and rural affairs at Swale council, said: “We’re glad to have these remedial works completed so swiftly and to be ready to reopen to the public once more.

“Local residents will now be able to enjoy all the improvements that have been made to this valuable community resource.”

As part of the revamp, the pool had its entire water management system replaced, with other refurbishments made to the landscaping nearby play area.
