Sittingbourne blitzed by tool thefts from vans.

Police are warning van owners to remove tools overnight following a series of break-ins.

Thousands of pounds worth of equipment have been reported stolen during a spate of thefts across Sittingbourne.

Many took place over the bank holiday weekend.

More than 10 vans were targeted.

Break-ins were reported in the London Road, Borden Lane, Langley Road and Pond Farm Road between Friday August 18 and Monday August 28.

A police spokesman said: "Officers are keen to speak to anyone with information about the incidents or the identity of those involved."

They believe additional thefts may not been reported..

Victims should report crimes by calling 101 or 999 if the theft is still taking place.

The spokesman added: "There are various steps which can help better secure your vehicle and hinder would-be criminals.

"Besides locking and alarming your vehicle, always remove items left inside and park in a secure car park or a well-lit location whenever possible."
