Reunion of being held to raise money for family of Sheppey Crossing victims Deborah Roberts and son Marshall

Former classmates of Sheppey Crossing crash victim Deborah Roberts will hold a reunion in Sittingbourne today to help raise funds for her family.

The 42-year-old, of Granville Road, Sheerness, and her eight-year-old son Marshall were killed in a collision on the bridge on July 1.

School friends from the former Rowena School for Girls in Sittingbourne, some of whom had not been in contact with her for up to 26 years prior to the tragedy, got together and made a plan to attend her funeral.

One of the organisers, Clare Thomas, said: “Many more wanted to attend but were prevented by other commitments or because they were no longer local. So we decided to plan another event that would be a reunion for many more of us, and an opportunity to raise some funds for the family.”

She added the event was expected to be a emotional but and enjoyable occasion.

The private get-together will take place on Saturday at Woodcombe Social Club in Church Road, Sittingbourne.

As well as making donations, the class of 1988 will be contributing to a raffle.

The money will go to Deborah’s two sons via her sister Emma Tweed, who will be attending.

If you would like to make a donation, call Maria Hurton on 07950 164826.
