13 May 2014
by Times Guardian reporter

An ambulance on its way to a call was involved in a three-vehicle crash in Leysdown this afternoon.

A man, believed to be about 60, had to be cut free and was taken to hospital following the smash in Leysdown Road, Leysdown, near the junction with Harty Ferry Road at around 1pm.

The road was partially closed with traffic at one stage reportedly going back to Brambledown Farm Shop in Lower Road.

It is thought the ambulance was in a crash with one vehicle before another one hit into the two of them.

The man who was freed from his vehicle by firefighters using hydraulic equipment was suffering from back pain and was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, for more checks.

The other people involved in the crash were assessed at the scene, but it is thought they did not suffer serious injuries and did not require further treatment.

An additional ambulance was sent to respond to the initial 999 call.
