Flames at Klondyke Industrial Estate Queenborough after rubbish fire takes hold

A Ford Transit van was destroyed when rubbish caught fire on an industrial estate.

The blaze took hold around 10pm last night (Sunday) at the Klondyke Industrial Estate in Queenborough.

Facebook reported that the flames could be seen from miles away. It was originally feared that an industrial unit had gone up.

The blaze turned out to be a large quantity of household and construction waste behind a unit. The Transit van was parked nearby.

Two fire crews using a hose reel and main jet and wearing breathing apparatus put the flames out.

They also used a thermal imaging camera to search for remaining hotspots.

There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The estate, in Rushenden Road, is home to several businesses including Island Plastics but the units are due for demolition to make way for housing.
