Services all across the Island to mark Remembrance Day

Six Remembrance services will take place across the Island on Sunday to mark Armistice Day.

The Sheerness branch of the Royal British Legion has organised the main parade and service which will take place at the war memorial in Bridge Road at 11am.

The parade will muster from 10.30am in the Sheppey College car park and then march round to the memorial for a short service led by the Rev Chris Shipley.

There will be general road closures around the memorial from 10.40am until the parade sets off at around 11.20am.

It will then go through the High Street, Broadway and Trinity Road for the march past and salute.

A service will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Broadway, Sheerness at 11.45am.

All are welcome for refreshments at the Co-op Club, in St George’s Avenue, Sheerness.

Other services will be at:

  • Minster Abbey, 10.45am. A Remembrance service with the Rev Sue Martin officiating.
  • Holy Trinity Church, Queenborough, 10.45am. Parish Eucharist service in church and laying of wreaths at war memorial at 11am. The Rev Tim Hall is officiating.
  • All Saints’ Church, Eastchurch, 10am mass and 10.55am. Service of Remembrance in church followed by wreath laying and Act of Remembrance at the Lychgate. Lay leader David Silk officiating.
  • Lychgate, Leysdown, 2pm. Act of Remembrance led by Lay leader David Silk. Mayor of Swale Cllr Pat Sandle will attend.
  • War grave, Harty, 3pm. Service and Act of Remembrance. Mayor of Swale Cllr Pat Sandle will attend.

Tomorrow (Saturday) there will be a short Remembrance Service at Sheppey Cemetery, Halfway Road, Halfway, at 11am. Everyone is welcome. After the service, crosses of Remembrance will be placed at all military graves by members of the Royal British Legion, courtesy of the Isle of Sheppey Rotary Club.
