Police treating a Sheerness High Street fire at the Rendezvous Bar and Grill as suspicious

Police remain at the scene of a suspected arson attack in Sheerness early this morning.

Fire crews were called to the Rendezvous Bar and Grill restaurant in the High Street at about 5am.

Smoke was seen coming from the building, which stands at the junction of Millennium Way.

Pumps from Eastchurch and Sheerness attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled what was described as a "small fire".

It was dealt with by 6am.

Police are working with fire officers to determine the cause of the blaze.

A police spokesman confirmed the incident was currently being treated as arson.
