Sheppey fire crews called to three suspicious blazes in Sheerness.

Crews were called to three suspicious blazes in rapid succession in Sheerness this morning.

The first visit at 3am was to rubbish alight in the Broadway, followed minutes later to reports of a front door on fire in Alma Road.

It was extinguished by 3.20am and the extent of the damage is not yet known.
At about 3.30am, “a quantity of rubbish” was discovered alight in an alleyway off Clyde Street.

The blaze, which spread to fencing, was dealt with by 3.50am.

All three incidents were reported to police.

Andy Bridger-Smart, watch manager at Sheppey fire station, said: “All the fires had potential to spread.

“I would ask people to ensure that they work together to keep alleyways clear of rubbish and report any build-up to Swale council.

“In dry conditions fires have a lot more potential to spread quickly.”
