Sheerness: Teenager charged with arson following fire in middle of the night

A 19-year-old man has been charged with arson following a fire in Sheerness.

Roy Weekes, of Alexandra Road, Sheerness, was charged on Tuesday last week with arson with intent.

The charge follows a fire at 2.30am on the same day and in the same road, where police officers were called to a report of a wheelie bin on fire.

The fire had spread to the front door of a house.

Officers were joined by firefighters after the residents inside were alerted by their fire alarm.

No injuries were reported.

Police carried out CCTV inquiries and one man was arrested.

Weekes appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday. He was remanded in custody and is due before the court again on Wednesday, December 20.
