Three rescued after jetski breaks down off Eastchurch

Three people have been taken to hospital after the jet ski they were on broke down as they tried to get from Sheppey to Southend.

A major search was launched after the Coastguard had calls from the jetski and someone on the shore at around 9pm last night.

Sheerness RNLI Inshore Lifeboat and Sheppey Coastguard were scrambled, but couldn't find any sign of the jetski.

Then the RAF Rescue helicopter was launched from Wattisham and the Sheerness RNLI Allweather Lifeboat were added to the search.

It is thought the group had spent four hours in the water before being found by the lifeboat three quarters of a mile off Eastchurch.

They were only dressed in shorts with no life jackets and taken to Medway Maritime hospital suffering from signs of hypothermia.
