Tributes paid to "valued" teacher

A head teacher has paid tribute to one of her staff, who died after a car accident on the Sheppey Crossing.

Linda Evans, 51, who was a teacher at Cheyne Middle School, died after the incident on Tuesday, February 3.

Maureen Snelling, head teacher at the school, described Mrs Evans as a lovely, caring person.

She said: “Linda was a friend and we have worked together for quite some time – she was a valued member of the school.

“She did more than just her job as a teacher, she helped with lunchtime clubs and she cared about the people she taught.

“She was very bubbly and a personality, she was lovely.”

Linda lived in Sheldwich near Faversham and leaves behind her husband Paul, who is an assistant head teacher at Cheyne, son Lloyd, 17, and Bethan, 15.

There was a non-uniform day at the school last week and the children have decided to donate £100 to the Stroke Association.

There is a condolence book in the staff room for staff to sign, and there are flowers in the entrance to the hall.

Tomorrow (Thursday) the school will hold a special memorial assembly.

Mrs Snelling added: “At the assembly we will celebrate Linda as a person and a mum and make the kids smile about her.”
