Minster woman marks wedding anniversary by winning BBC One’s Think Tank with Bill Turnbull

Working woman, volunteer, mother-of-two, grandmother-of-three and still adventurous – Tina Crockford is always up for the next challenge.

Last week the 67-year-old ticked another item off her bucket list by winning a television quiz show.

But it isn’t any old bucket list – this is the one created for her wedding anniversary, drawn up on a ‘when-inspiration-hits’ basis by psychotherapist Mrs Crockford and her husband of nearly 50 years John, 68.

With their golden wedding anniversary approaching this October, the couple decided to come up with an unusual way to mark the occasion.

So, having always felt an urge to take part in a TV game show, Mrs Crockford took the plunge, signing herself up for BBC One’s Think Tank with Bill Turnbull.

And the risk paid off, when she correctly answered the final, difficult question at the end – winning to the tune of £2,800.

“I’d thought about doing it before. I’d sit on the settee and think ‘I know that’,” she said.

“I thought I’d put all the information I’d been saving up for 50-odd years to good use.

“When I won, I think it was sheer luck because the questions were hard, and quite obscure.

“But the last question just slotted in with our family history and the Grand National, and I knew what it was.”

Mr Crockford says he had every faith in his wife. “She’s got a brain that holds information,” he said. “She’s pretty bright – and she knows a lot about animals.”

Mrs Crockford filmed the episode of the daytime show in Glasgow in February, and it was broadcast at 2.15pm last Thursday.

After initial celebrations, Mrs Crockford says the money will now be saved to celebrate their anniversary on October 29 – which is what the quiz was all about.

The couple’s bucket list will also be kept up, marking years that end in five or nought – such as the year they flew on Concorde or went scuba diving – and Mrs Crockford says they never know what is going to be added to it next.

“It’s all spur of the moment.”
