Campaign video hope for family of murdered Carl Davies

The sister of murdered teacher Carl Davies is hoping to raise £3,500 to fund a professional campaign awareness video to ensure justice for her brother.

The body of the former Royal Marine, who worked at Sittingbourne Community College and later at the Isle of Sheppey Academy before joining a security firm tackling piracy, was found on the south Indian Ocean island of Reunion in November 2011.

A petition for the UK government to raise the case with the French authorities was created in January following the release of Vincent Madouré, who was found guilty of the 33-year-old’s murder.

He was convicted after a three-day trial in the island’s capital Saint-Denis in June last year, but it later emerged he had been released on October 24 under judicial supervision after his appeal for a retrial was successful.

Carl’s sister, Kerrie Stewart, said: “We just want the British government to do more to support Carl’s case – just come on board and help us because I am pretty sure it can.”

The online petition was created by ex-soldier turned author and entrepreneur, Jordan Wylie, after he heard about the ‘Justice for Carl Davies’ campaign.

He previously helped with the campaign for the release of the Chennai Six – a group of British soldiers held on weapons charges in India since 2013.

Mrs Stewart said: “Jordan helped the Chennai Six family make a short film, which explained the backgrounds to the case, as well as the reality of life since, and it was really successful.”

The 37-year-old added: “We’d like to do the same about what happened to Carl, what the case is all about, where we are now and how many signatures we need for the government to listen.

“Hopefully it will raise awareness and gather more support.”

The family, who were from Harrietsham, now live in Scotland.

Meanwhile, Kerrie Stewart will head to Manchester on Wednesday, March 7 to film the awareness video, which she hopes will “hit the right people” after being uploaded to YouTube.

“My mum and dad physically cannot fight anymore,” she said. “It’s just me now and I’ve got a little more fire in my belly. I know Carl (pictured) would be doing exactly the same for me too.”

She added: “It’s so important that we get ours and Carl’s voice heard so this is not another murder abroad that gets swept under the carpet and hushed in the hope we will go away.

“Thank you everyone for your continued support as always, we could never have done this without every one of you.”

So far, more than £1,700 has been raised of the £3,500 target.
