Sheppey: Woman arrested over smuggling phones into Swaleside prison

A 30-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle mobile phones into a prison.

The woman, from Bromley, was arrested at 6pm yesterday while visiting a prisoner in HMP Swaleside in Eastchurch, Sheppey.

The woman was held on suspicion on conveying prohibited property to prison after she was believed to have been seen putting an item into an inmate’s clothing.

During a search of the woman’s bag officers found a sim card, four mobile phones which were wrapped in cling film and another mobile phone.

The woman remains in police custody while inquiries are continuing.
